You Are Not A Statistic | Ep. 36

Would you like to know something all rock star entrepreneurs have in common?

They don’t believe every statistic they hear.

I’m talking about those really discouraging numbers we’re always hearing, like “two out of three business fail in the first five years” and “only 6% of small business owners make over six figures.”

This kind of bad news can tempt you to put your dreams back on the shelf and just go get a job.

You were put on this earth to forge your own path and to achieve great things. You are not here to be a statistic.

Sure, listening to the numbers may seem reasonable. But today, you’re going to find out why following your heart—not numbers—is the most reasonable thing you can do.

Here’s What to Expect in This Episode

  • The key to reaching your life goals no matter what the statistics say.
  • Why you shouldn’t believe everything you read.
  • Why your attitude matters much more than “the odds.”
  • Why you shouldn’t give up on your dreams – ever.
  • The secret rewards of being an “unreasonable” person.
  • The two BIG choices you have in your business.

  1. Erika Fabian says:

Bill, this is a very inspiring and true message. I am also an immigrant, who came to the U.S.without a world of English, without a home and without a penny. But I made a success of my life, B.A from Northwestern, MFA from UCLA, and am working on my 22nd book. (All others are published)
So thanks for the positive message. Sometimes it’s hard not to ask “why do I bother?” But the answer always is, “because it matters to me!”
Wish you all the luck with your work,

  2. 80% of people die from cancer x or 20% of people survive from cancer x. Same facts but which feels better. You take on board what you are exposed to, vet your environment.

  3. Bill, you can say more about what’s relevant to those of us in this field, in a few minutes, then anyone I’ve ever heard speak for an hour! Thank you with gifting all of us with your precious time!

  4. Totally agree with Bill – my life changed when i stopped listening to the news ( which is only about negative news and forecast). Nevertheless, I have never been behind with was happening, because by the time I left my house, everyone out there were talking about it until the end of the day, when the news come on again…
    I am not statistics.
I am the creator of my life.
    I love my life!!

  5. Wow, that was a great kick this morning! Just what I needed, when I needed it. Life is good, thanks! 🙂

  6. Tana says:

Very important, what you said,. We have the choice to become useless and unproductive statistics, or to do something positive, in whatever area we choose.. As counselors we need to accomplish what we want to do as an example for our clients…in whatever area of guidance we choose to work.

  7. This quick swift kick in the statistics gave me permission to respond to those who spout them–they say that 9 out of 10 businesses fail in the first year…. WHAT!–with the cold hard data that I am “not a statistic” and, even if I am, I am “a statistic of one.” My preparatory work, my competitive edge, and my delivery will carry the day, and I will succeed… inevitably.

  8. “Be Unreasonable” in order to pursue anything you truly love.

Great message for the weekend. Statistics are interesting, but you can always be the exception to the norm. “It takes courage”, and all have it.

    Congrats to BigShift Podcast!

  9. Barry Spilchuk says:

    Well Done Bill!
Stats – 3 out of 5 will fail according to the Bureau of Stats.
HOWEVER…In my household 100% of all businesses and lives are succeeding (All 5 of us)
    Why? We don’t give up.
Many blessings Bill. Keep up the great work.
